Lost & Found

Its almost a year since my last post, but who cares!! (not even me!!) Every year during this time, all the batches are gone, especially fourth year, our magnificent campus is almost vacant, except for good research (generally) no work, so this is excellent opportunity to fill up my blog. Can't decide what to write, a 'fav list', experiences with my students...these topics are generally come to my mind. So based on the same theme, i am just trying to summarize what i have Lost & Found in last year from my fav place (our deptt) and from my fav people (???).
At the beginning of the session, I find myself giving consent to eleven brilliant students from the fourth year as their guide for their projects. #found. Arvind & Gaurav published a paper going to appear in an international conference. When they first talked about this, I confess, thought it's just another student's promise. but they kept it.#found Here is the bad news, the experiments of Arvind & Gaurav are going to appear in next OS lab experiment list.
Ananth also published a paper in an international conference. Its always a bigger joy to get things when expectations are zero.#found. You may ask, what's the big deal with the publications...anyone can do it with their small work. Both the papers show just the sincerity of the authors, and believe me they haven't compromised their sleep/parties or whatever. Hope these efforts give some directions for the next batches. Ankit-Vikas and Subodh's work could have been given a better shape, I take the responsibility for not giving the (proper) 'direction'. #lost.. For other high potential brain's wastage, I do not take responsibility, but that make me sad. Sad seeing such brains and ideas going in vain. #lost. This makes me think about limiting my intake.
Two facts: 1. some getting a handsome package and more than one job #found and 2. some not getting a single job #lost.. though both the facts do not make me worry. What make me worry is the trend of 'not attending the class' .#lost. You may appreciate someone getting admission in world's best college, but for me, I respect only  his intelligence, no respect for the person. I always believe how you play the game is more important than what cards are in your hand. I think that intelligence worked only due to our generosity (or rather .......). These trend was not only limited to final year, but also to pre-final year.#lost. Hope this trend ends before its takes a dangerous shape.
Allow me to introduce one of  friend/senior. After completion of  third year, he had a paper out of his minor project. At end of 4th year, the number goes to three. and at fifth stage, total five is the number. Sincere, polite, hard working and intelligent. Never seen Tripathi sir praising any student and that too in front of him. Some students do make us proud and we feel lucky to work with them. Himanshu is one of such students. #found #found #found. The bad effect is that now i expect the same level from other students too. Hope IDD students (and Btech too) will set such standards making their guide proud and the department in general.
Commenting on department, that i won't elaborate. just Jaisa Raja- Waisi praja, i feel detached from department. Getting a new building,#found still requesting other deptts for examinations#lost, Conferences, student conferences and workshop,#found working like bhanumati ka kunba#lost
I know that i am a lethargic person,  its enough for me to end this. i hope next session will bring me many #found  and less #lost.
